setting
Index was once a small and close-knit community, but the town located on the western side of Washington state has grown in recent years beyond anyone's expectations. It is the ideal place for those who work in Seattle but can't afford the city's high real estate prices, and for others the natural beauty attracts them to the town. And Index truly is a beautiful place - surrounded by thick evergreen trees, tall mountains and glistening rivers and lakes. While weather is typically rainy with overcast skies even this does nothing to take away from the beauty of the town, and it is only highlighted further when the heavy snow graces the town and caps the mountains in winter. To many, Index would seem like a paradise. And yet lurking beneath this visual beauty there is more to this town than anyone might ever imagine...

Current Time in Index, Washington:
rules
PLAYBYS: Sims from the games Sims 2, 3 and 4 are used to visually represent player’s original characters (no characters from within the franchise are allowed). But, you do not need these games to join and roleplay! If you wish, you can post a thread in our out of character / general forum and list as many physical details about your character as you wish. The members of Index will happily try and make a character for you, and you can choose which one you feel best fits your vision.

AVATARS: Avatars should display your characters face clearly and should be at least 200 pixels tall, and 200 pixels wide.

THREADING & POSTING: When threading with multiple characters, it is important that you post only when it is your turn. This can be acheived by taking note of who has posted before you, and remember you are to always post after them. If you were the thread starter, then it is your turn after the final person has joined your thread.

When creating a thread you are required to place a tag before the title. Here are a list of types of thread you can create and how to tag each one:

[Open] Anyone is welcome to join your thread, with no limit on the number of characters.
[Open - #] Anyone is welcome to join your thread, but there is a limit on the number of characters who can join. Replace the # with how many extra characters you will allow to join your thread.
[Private] Only specific characters can join your thread.
[Closed] This tag should be used for threads that only involve your character.

ACTIVITY: To keep threads moving, people are encouraged to post within three days when it is their turn. If you do not post within three days, and you have not asked people to wait for you, it is possible you will be skipped. Keep in mind this is just a suggestion. While we'd love for everyone to be active every day, we understand that real life and other hobbies are just as important, if not more. We want you to be active because you want to be, not because a rule is telling you to be.

MATURITY RATING: Public threads should all be PG. If roleplayers above the age of 18 wish to post content that could be could be considered graphic then it should be hidden from view using the [hide] [/hide] code, which will enable only those in the threads and administrators to view the content.

Song Playing in Joint

"You alright hun?" The woman I'd come to know as Maryann asked in concern. Hm? I looked at her curiously. ''You've been here for nearly two hours, been through more cups of coffee than I've seen anyone drink in my time as a barista, and been in and out of the men's room at least three times. You got a place to stay, you need me to call someone?'' She asked as she hesitantly refilled my cup for the billionth time. Oh... I laughed. No I'm fine, I'm meetin' a girl. ''Ooooh, lucky girl. Someone special?'' Nah just uh... Well... I paused, tone changing, I guess we'll find out. She smiled, gave me a pat on the shoulder, and disappeared. I could hear it in her voice, she didn't think my date was going to show up. Once she saw this woman though, I knew she'd understand why I'd waited so long.

I gave myself a stretch, leaning back in my seat as I read over the newspaper. How many ford pickups could one town actually have for sale? I mean yeah Index had grown, a lot actually since I first moved here. But damn, it seemed it was just growing more hicks. Was there a farm somewhere? Were they legit being grown and fed and watered? Shit was unreal. I found myself scanning over the pictures, then over the words, not really seeing, because every ''Davis'' surname stuck out like a sore thumb, every ''Lauren'' stuck out more. Fuck me, what if she wasn't gonna show?

I jogged to the door of the coffee shop which was tricky business because of the rain and the fact that I was wearing heels, but I'd forgotten both an umbrella and a rain coat, which meant that there was nothing stopping the rain from completely soaking my hair given enough time. It wasn't a heavy downpour, but my hair was difficult to control and I didn't want it getting messed up.

Inside, Uncommon Grounds was warm and dry and the menu offered a number of drinks that would warm me up after being outside in the autumn rain. It was cozy - busy but not crowded so the murmur of voices combined with the music to add to the ambient of the place. It was an oasis against Index's general gloominess, which was especially nice after working in the emergency room.

I glanced around the room, and I saw Logan seated at a table with a newspaper open in front of him. I hoped he hadn't been waiting long, since I hadn't given him my number and I'd ended up getting a last minute patient which had delayed my arrival to the cafe.

Logan? I said, gently touching his shoulder to get his attention. I hope you haven't been waiting long. I set my purse in the chair across from him, I'm going to get some coffee and then we can have that conversation. This felt a little too date-like, but as long as we were discussing music I couldn't see it as being truly unethical. I certainly didn't think talking music with him would affect my decision making in the hospital environment.

I'd looked up towards the entrance every time the bell chimed. The first time it had been a heavy set lady with three toddlers, one of which had snot crustys painting his upper lip white in something I could only describe as a milk mustache. I only remembered him because he'd had his finger up his nose in the corner booth the whole time, just watching me. They'd since left, but damn it killed any appetite I had for a donut that was for sure. After that, it was just the mundane. A woman in a nice suit with a sourpuss look on her face. A tall lanky dude with dreads that smelled like he'd been rolling around in pig shit. And just... None of them were her. I sighed, looking at my phone for the time before turning back to the newspaper.

And then the door swung open again. A song played in my head as she entered in slow motion. And of course her clothes practically fell to the floor, this time revealing something red and barely there. ''Can I get some cream?'' Her voice breathy and eyes narrowed on me as she reached for a carton of milk, dumping it all down her chest...

''Logan?'' Her voice snapped me right back to reality and I looked up at her as guilty as a teen caught red handed with pornhub in his browsing history. Oh! I shook my head, Not at all. Please, let me. I stood up, pulling my wallet from my back pocket and gesturing her to lead the way to the counter. Fuck me, this was a date, there was no way she was paying for shit. You look... Amazing by the way. And I hope you're not too tired, I can't wait to pick your brain about all things music. I flashed her a grin and locked eyes with Maryann as she traveled to the register. ''You must be the girl.'' She smiled, and I gave her a wide eyed stare. Shit I didn't want her to think I'd talked about her, not yet anyway, fuck. Maryann quickly cleared her throat, getting serious real quick. Her acting was shit. ''What can I get for ya'?''

I hesitated when he pulled out his wallet. As sweet as it was, I'd already decided that I wasn't going to let things go the wrong way. True, he was an attractive man with similar interests to mine who I'd agreed to have coffee with, but that didn't mean it had to be anything romantic or sexual. There were a million reasons as to why that was a bad idea, the first of which was that I was his doctor. A close second was the matter of what Ben had done to me. I couldn't think about it without feeling... dirty. I was a doctor. I'd had a number of patients who'd been diagnosed with HIV and I'd told them that it was nothing to be ashamed of.

I smiled at his compliment, even though I looked the same that I had hours ago, sans the lab coat and slightly wetter. Fortunately, I was more fatigued than tired. I'd been on my feet for a long time, but I'd slept abnormally well the night before which meant that I was mentally pretty well rested, even if my feet were sore. That'd be remedied soon anyway.

My mouth opened in surprise at the kindly woman behind the register's comment. I definitely needed to clarify what kind of meeting this was with Logan, although it would definitely be better to wait until we were out of the lady's earshot, since I didn't want to embarrass him. Just a regular coffee, please, I said with a smile. "Coming right up" she said.

When she walked away to pour my coffee I took the opportunity to clear things up with Logan. I just wanted to make sure this isn't a date, right? It was awkward to be saying this after everything shouted that he was under the impression that it was a date, but the sooner I cleared the air, the sooner we could get to what I'd really come for: the music.

A woman after my own heart. She didn't order a triple fapfapfap with a side of coffee beans for snorting later. Nope, she ordered a plain coffee. If I believed in soulmates, I'd be certain I'd just found mine. The problem was, something was off. Now I'd been known to put the pedal to the metal and go full innuendo flirtation, or full romance-the-fuck with a girl. My new sense of time, and how little of it we all had wasn't entirely a new thing. It was just... Revived. I pushed shit fast, go hard or go home. But I could always tell when a chick wasn't vibin' with me. Which one-hundred-percent of the time meant I needed to find a new way in. Charming smiles and generous gestures weren't going to get the job done with this woman. No, no, I needed to pull out my cards and start laying them down until one brought out a reaction I could work with.

I uh... I nervously rubbed the back of my neck, something I'd done more than once in her presence, I was certain she was gonna turn the skin raw back there. Yeah, I was disappointed, but we hadn't even had a legit conversation yet. She was a certain type of woman. The dangerous kind. For me anyway, because in one little sentence I could tell physical attraction wasn't gonna cut it. She wanted emotional, or intellectual, both of which I could pull off with flying colors. It just wasn't nearly as fun as connecting to one another in the sheets. But I could do it, it'd been a while anyway, and I needed to keep up practice. That shit was not like riding a bike. Of course not, just two... Friends, or potential friends, talking about what they're passionate about. I quickly salvaged the situation and put my wallet away as Maryann returned, ''If you kids are gonna be a while, I can just start a tab.'' She didn't even wait for an answer, and used her hands to shoo us both away.

I guess we're gonna be a while. I laughed as I returned to my seat and took a drink from my cup. Maybe we should start with genre's. Interests and played? This was going to be a conversation, and it wasn't going to be one sided, but the more I could keep her talking, the better it would be for me. Women liked to talk about themselves, they liked sharing and feeling a connection, but the difference between Laurel and the women from my past, excluding two in particular, was that what Laurel had to talk about actually did interest me.
