setting
Index was once a small and close-knit community, but the town located on the western side of Washington state has grown in recent years beyond anyone's expectations. It is the ideal place for those who work in Seattle but can't afford the city's high real estate prices, and for others the natural beauty attracts them to the town. And Index truly is a beautiful place - surrounded by thick evergreen trees, tall mountains and glistening rivers and lakes. While weather is typically rainy with overcast skies even this does nothing to take away from the beauty of the town, and it is only highlighted further when the heavy snow graces the town and caps the mountains in winter. To many, Index would seem like a paradise. And yet lurking beneath this visual beauty there is more to this town than anyone might ever imagine...

Current Time in Index, Washington:
rules
PLAYBYS: Sims from the games Sims 2, 3 and 4 are used to visually represent player’s original characters (no characters from within the franchise are allowed). But, you do not need these games to join and roleplay! If you wish, you can post a thread in our out of character / general forum and list as many physical details about your character as you wish. The members of Index will happily try and make a character for you, and you can choose which one you feel best fits your vision.

AVATARS: Avatars should display your characters face clearly and should be at least 200 pixels tall, and 200 pixels wide.

THREADING & POSTING: When threading with multiple characters, it is important that you post only when it is your turn. This can be acheived by taking note of who has posted before you, and remember you are to always post after them. If you were the thread starter, then it is your turn after the final person has joined your thread.

When creating a thread you are required to place a tag before the title. Here are a list of types of thread you can create and how to tag each one:

[Open] Anyone is welcome to join your thread, with no limit on the number of characters.
[Open - #] Anyone is welcome to join your thread, but there is a limit on the number of characters who can join. Replace the # with how many extra characters you will allow to join your thread.
[Private] Only specific characters can join your thread.
[Closed] This tag should be used for threads that only involve your character.

ACTIVITY: To keep threads moving, people are encouraged to post within three days when it is their turn. If you do not post within three days, and you have not asked people to wait for you, it is possible you will be skipped. Keep in mind this is just a suggestion. While we'd love for everyone to be active every day, we understand that real life and other hobbies are just as important, if not more. We want you to be active because you want to be, not because a rule is telling you to be.

MATURITY RATING: Public threads should all be PG. If roleplayers above the age of 18 wish to post content that could be could be considered graphic then it should be hidden from view using the [hide] [/hide] code, which will enable only those in the threads and administrators to view the content.

“Of course.” I groaned slightly under my breath retrieving my phone. Why didn’t I think of that? I had a GPS tracker running on my phone right now to give Dom an idea where I was. Time was of the essence, the faster I could get out of here, the shorter the recovery time. I could use some of the Vampire blood I had in stock but it wasn’t necessarily an easy resource to come by. Not all Vampires were free with the sale or trade of their own blood. I’d rather use it for what it was intended for, not to patch myself up after an act of idiocy. “Straight through here, is the most direct route.” I pointed at a densely wooded area with undergrowth. Faster but not easier by any means.

“Sounds great, if you have any ideas on how I can see them that would be grand.” Now I was going to have to think of something to bring to the table because she actually knew what they looked like. What help was I even going to be? “If you need anything, I can get it.” Returning without her first to get some of that black tar to test was the only option I had. I didn’t want to fall further in debt to Daphne. Which meant I was going to need to take another Necromancer. Shane. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer? Or was this a case of me not wanting to see her again until I actually had an idea of what the hell was going on? “We could meet at the Museum, I’m shifting my office there once I reorganize the restricted section.”

“Twenty six” Was she sure she was Twenty Two? Now that was a question I really wasn’t going to ask. I couldn’t really follow up with ‘That’s fantastic, now I don’t feel bad about putting you in danger’ either. That would be real smooth. Changing the subject as keenly as possible I looked at the fact, if we were going to take the fastest path to the road, we were going to have to go bush. “Don’t suppose you have any tricks to make this go by painlessly?” Now I was racking my brain. Did I have enough energy left for Rock Call? Make myself a path? I was meant to be studying Fire Spells and here I was in Earth element boot camp.

I looked at the dense undergrowth that he pointed to doubtfully, but after a moment's thought I decided that it would still likely be faster to go directly to the road. Okay, let's go that way, Negotiating the undergrowth would probably be more painful for Kai, but it wasn't like we were climbing a mountain or anything. We could climb through dense undergrowth, even if it wouldn't be my first choice.

I don't know. I've never really thought about it, but I can research that as well. Whatever those things were, I didn't like them. It wouldn't hurt to find a way for Kai to see them so that he could be more helpful in getting rid of them. I nodded at his statement that he could get me what I needed. I was surprised at his complete willingness to allow me in on all of this. I guess I shouldn't have though, since he'd been pretty open since the moment we'd met. I trusted him well enough - and I use the term trust loosely - but that was mainly because of his family's reputation and our interactions. If he was deciding how to judge me based on the reputation of necros or our interactions then I wouldn't have thought that he would've trusted me at all.

I'd used the museum as a rendezvous point before with no problem. It would be even better to be able to use a private office. That would work, I said, nodding. With Kai's resources combined with mine and a good workspace, I was certain that we would be able to at least figure out what the shadow figures were, if not much more. The difficult part would be actually combating them. Between the two of us I didn't doubt that there was a good amount of combined power and experience, but I wasn't sure it would be enough.

Glad we've got that sorted, I said with a smirk since I could tell that he hadn't pinned me for being any older than nineteen.

While necromancers were supposedly imbued with healing powers, I wasn't familiar with any specific spells that I could use to heal Kai. I was kicking myself now for not studying more in that sector, but I hadn't exactly been expecting to need it. I made a mental note to research those as well. Unfortunately, I was presently more or less useless to Kai. No, sorry. I considered the army of the dead thing again briefly, but discarded it again. I'll go ahead and try to hold the branches out of the way for you, I said, moving decidedly in the direction which he had indicated.

There were many things that made me more comfortable with Daphne than I was with Shane. That should be viewed as a terrible development. Both of us having the study bug was good for Index but potentially bad for me sticking to my No Necromancers allowed clubhouse rules. Even though I found I never spent enough time really learning everything there was to know about artifacts, spells, anything really. I did spend a ridiculous amount of time in my office. Playing video games and reading. “Perfect. Just text me. I have to search for an assistant, or two to help me with the clean-up first but I’ll get right on that.” Work had taken a back-burner spot until I actually officially started. I couldn’t rightly make changes before I’d actually taken over.

Her little smirk was the end to an awkward conversation but it still had me thinking about how close we were actually in age. Mother always got on my back about making friends who weren’t also clients of mine. Preferably of a female witch kind. Bet she wasn’t expecting my first encounter to be that of a Necromancer. That thought actually disturbingly tickled me pink since I had left just to get away from the constant hounding about my future marital status.

“A luminary would be a godsend right now.” Right now it would be dangerous to draw from any energy that pulsed in their ley lines and it was highly likely that any Luminaries would sit on a pathway. As much as it would be handy to rejuvenate, the power was potentially tainted and more than likely hours walk away. “There are some definitive camping trips in my future, this forest is a potential goldmine.” As frightened as I was about what had just happened I wanted to see what else this town had to offer.

“My parents are always trying to convince me to train more, they get their wish today.” Emitting a low deep hum I cast Rock Call. It was harder than I thought to get the rocks to respond to my voice but eventually a boulder the size of a German Shepard came rolling in. I directed it towards the distant road careful not to bowl Daphne over. I was now tapped, my eyelids felt droopy and my mouth was dry. I nodded at Daphne’s offer to hold back the higher overgrowth and forced myself into a limp.

Any kind of help would be a godsend right now, I said simply. Kai's injuries weren't serious enough to be life-threatening, but it was definitely a hassle to try to assist him back to civilization when I was me and he was significantly bigger. We were so far away that I could see this trip taking a long time if we didn't find a way to speed things up a bit.

I've found all sorts of strange things in this forest. I said with a laugh. Index was a draw to the supernatural, no doubt about that. I'd met witches and mediums and vampires and probably others that I didn't know about in the span of a few short years. The ley lines were definitely a part of it, but sometimes it seemed like the supernatural roots went deeper here. The tree, for example, seemed like it was about more than just simple power draining.

The rock he called was a strange but good idea. It bowled down the undergrowth and significantly sped our progress. Good idea, I commented as I watched the rock roll ahead. The irony that the one with healing power would be more useful to help himself than the one who supposedly had healing powers. I pressed on, holding the branches aside as best I could to help Kai along.

My own mother would not be pleased to hear about the tree or even Kai, if I decided to tell her about him. She was quite a bother when she was in a bad mood. I couldn't imagine that any of this would put her in a good one. Her knowledge might be useful in identifying the shadowy figures, but she was not trusting of witches or warlocks. Rightly so, I liked Kai well enough but I could tell he was not a fan of my kind. It was hard to trust those who immediately didn't like you because of the blood that ran in your veins. Not that I particularly cared about whether he liked me more not. I had decided to trust him to a point, and his opinion of me would not change that.

The walk to a camping site or location of interest had always appeared to take longer than the trip home. It was all the anticipation of discovery that dragged everything out. This was really not the case today. Roles were reversed. I zoned in and out, feeling ill for part of the trip until my body got used to the constant pain. White dots had danced their way across my vision more than once so the sigh of relief that fell out of my mouth when I could see a break in the trees ahead and the distant sound of music from my car, was dramatic. “Do you need a ride?” I was going to get ribbed for coming out of the forest with a random woman anyway. She might as well meet Dom and Will since I assumed both had come. Probably fighting over who got to drive in the elevator down to the parking garage.

I never very much liked thinking about what people could do for me. I’d had to linger on that thought when I’d become so preoccupied with Michelle to try and justify why she was so magnetic. I had a debt to repay to Daphne and I was obviously going to need help to rid Index of whatever this was but it didn’t hurt to try and get a little more out of the deal. “You can tell me about your experiences in the forest on the way, they’ll just think we were in the middle of a conversation about a video game.” Laughing as strongly as I could I wiped a hand across my forehead, slicking some of my hair. Though the disturbance at that tree was forefront in my mind I still also had lists of possible leads to the Magical in Index. Narrowing down my search options would be handy.

“Do you happen to know a guy named Shane Mathis?” Before she made a decision to take the ride or not I felt like I should know before we parted. Was it a weird coincidence I had met two Necromancers in this town? Did they know one another? Had I walked into a Necro Coven? So many questions, and these ones I really did need answers to. “Or any other Necromancers in Index for that matter?”
