setting
Index was once a small and close-knit community, but the town located on the western side of Washington state has grown in recent years beyond anyone's expectations. It is the ideal place for those who work in Seattle but can't afford the city's high real estate prices, and for others the natural beauty attracts them to the town. And Index truly is a beautiful place - surrounded by thick evergreen trees, tall mountains and glistening rivers and lakes. While weather is typically rainy with overcast skies even this does nothing to take away from the beauty of the town, and it is only highlighted further when the heavy snow graces the town and caps the mountains in winter. To many, Index would seem like a paradise. And yet lurking beneath this visual beauty there is more to this town than anyone might ever imagine...

Current Time in Index, Washington:
rules
PLAYBYS: Sims from the games Sims 2, 3 and 4 are used to visually represent player’s original characters (no characters from within the franchise are allowed). But, you do not need these games to join and roleplay! If you wish, you can post a thread in our out of character / general forum and list as many physical details about your character as you wish. The members of Index will happily try and make a character for you, and you can choose which one you feel best fits your vision.

AVATARS: Avatars should display your characters face clearly and should be at least 200 pixels tall, and 200 pixels wide.

THREADING & POSTING: When threading with multiple characters, it is important that you post only when it is your turn. This can be acheived by taking note of who has posted before you, and remember you are to always post after them. If you were the thread starter, then it is your turn after the final person has joined your thread.

When creating a thread you are required to place a tag before the title. Here are a list of types of thread you can create and how to tag each one:

[Open] Anyone is welcome to join your thread, with no limit on the number of characters.
[Open - #] Anyone is welcome to join your thread, but there is a limit on the number of characters who can join. Replace the # with how many extra characters you will allow to join your thread.
[Private] Only specific characters can join your thread.
[Closed] This tag should be used for threads that only involve your character.

ACTIVITY: To keep threads moving, people are encouraged to post within three days when it is their turn. If you do not post within three days, and you have not asked people to wait for you, it is possible you will be skipped. Keep in mind this is just a suggestion. While we'd love for everyone to be active every day, we understand that real life and other hobbies are just as important, if not more. We want you to be active because you want to be, not because a rule is telling you to be.

MATURITY RATING: Public threads should all be PG. If roleplayers above the age of 18 wish to post content that could be could be considered graphic then it should be hidden from view using the [hide] [/hide] code, which will enable only those in the threads and administrators to view the content.

My knowledge of Musical Instruments was limited. Gibson I had heard of. Epiphone I had not. This was the very position I hadn’t wanted Dom to encounter, and now I was the Vanguard. Waltzing around my ignorance was as easy as abandoning the purchase of a guitar and just advancing completely towards heavier flirting. It wasn’t a difficult transition as Michelle was witty and pleasing on the eyes. I couldn’t say picking up girls was a past-time of mine, not to the calibre that it was one of Dom’s, but I’d been a wingman enough to know my way around the battlefield. “To be honest my friend was the only one here looking to purchase an instrument.” I jerked a finger back towards Dom who took this as his chance to drive right in and introduce himself. “Names Dom, I’m the real customer, these two just came for the ride.” He had a black guitar already slung over his shoulder and spreading his legs wide he struck an exaggerated rock star pose. “I want something that screams Ozzy Osborne Lord of Darkness.”

“You’re going to need a truck load of drugs to get that effect.” Will enters into what was steadily becoming a zoo, holding the latest issue of Billboard. Had to respect the dedication they had to impersonating muso’s. “I’m Will, Dom might be the customer but he’s the wallet.” Here we go. Dominic instantly scowled at William who always felt the desire to throw the Lothario under a moving bus in front of beautiful women. Will was of course gesturing to me as the source of any money that might change hands causing me to stand up a little straighter and offer Michelle an apologetic smile. My friends were about to launch into World War 172. “Best to stand back and watch the fireworks, Michelle.”

Dom grabbed Will by the shirt arm escorting him out of earshot to have a few choice words. All I could catch from the distance was the odd swear word spoken at a louder volume than the rest of his lecture. “Awkward, can’t bring kids anywhere these days….so, Michelle..” That name did roll richly off my tongue. “…lived in Index long? I’ve heard it’s a deceiving little place, that the nightlife is actually something to behold.” I was hoping that what I had been told to sweeten the deal of taking the Curator position wasn’t just a ripe carrot. Not that a job was the only reason I had decided to relocate. “Kai, is my name by the way.” Flashing another smile in her direction I tried to keep my eyes trained on the boys who could end up becoming bulls in a china shop at any moment. “Apologies for the ape fest, these two have been stuck in my company for two days straight so the sight of a gorgeous women tends to de-evolve them.”

Mmm, never hurts to have moral support when it comes to large purchases. Okay, so the cheese grin might have been overkill to my "sales pitch". I knew to cut myself off then - I never believed that you could talk someone into buying something they hadn't planned on buying. Not usually, anyway, so I accepted that more than likely this was going to be a purely social interaction and anything else would be an added bonus. I wasn't necessarily disappointed. I just knew I needed to switch gears. Well, at least until I saw "Dom" going over the top. I was used to it, kids and adults alike. While I won't deny Ozzy's contributions to music, I certainly would choose a different idol. I shrugged, but nodded in agreeance to the brown haired sidekick, who held in his hand a magazine. Shit, when was the last time I actually sold one of those? Even when I was a mere employee we'd talking about stopping them, but the instrument companies seemed to push them. They were basically advertisements people were foolish enough to pay for.

It was all I could do to watch the show they were putting on for me, my face plastered with an incredulous grin. I even giggled slightly, Not a bad show, I guess. Just so they know if you're the wallet, you're buying anything they break. But after a certain point confrontation for me was more awkward than entertaining, so full circle, my attention was focused back on.... oh, shit, Michelle. Did you forget his name already? Wait... had he said? Ah, I could always go for the whole, what's yer name? oh no I meant your last name, trick. Lame, but it fucking worked.

Two wingmen, nice touch. Must work great at parties. I meant it in the least judgmental way possible, but when it came out I was sure I sounded as unamused as Daria. No, really, I was full on hating myself for absolutely soaking in the attention from him. And this is how it always happened. It got me so fucking high and then the next day (whether I'd fucked the person or not) all I could do was look in the mirror and see nothing but a trash bag.

I wondered if he could see the flash of whatever the fuck it was crawl onto my face and then run off like a rodent at his mention of night life. Recognition, like I'd heard a familiar name. But no, I was reading way more into it than needed, unless.. no. Could he be something? Time to drop some bait, right? Yeah, the night life here is... certainly not what you'd expect. He'd stolen one hundred percent of my attention to his unwitting wing men. Fuck, did I really want to invite him into that already complicated aspect of my life? Nah, fuck that. That was all the bait he got. However, mine might be sad in comparison. The Witcher? Fallout? There. I'm a nerd. Still interested?

Gorgeous women? Where? Are they single? I grinned, chuckling a little under my breath and shrugging. You did say Kai, right? I don't think I've seen you around. Then again maybe this town isn't as small as I think it is.

“Of course I’ll even add hazard pay.” At first, Dom, Will and any number of my other friends and acquaintances had cautioned me about flippantly making mention of my money. Usually it had one of two outcomes, sparked the interest of a gold-digger or pissed the person off. Being unapologetic about my net worth was just part of my personality and it wasn’t about to change. “They could destroy the place and I wouldn’t even have to use credit.” Being that she was the sole person outside of stuffy work colleagues and real-estate agents I had encountered in Index I reigned in the desire to warble on about how I’d always wanted to swipe my Black American Express card.

“I don’t tend to need a wing-man.” Possibly not the right response given her tone of voice but honesty was always the best policy. “I’m not usually the one on the prowl.” Just to clarify. There were times of course that I went out seeking a playmate but I also had to be careful, given my additional side venture. There had been a brief period where I had found myself infatuated with a Vampire. As you can imagine that hadn’t come to a tidy conclusion. “At my parties they’re on their own, speaking of which I’ll be throwing one in the coming weeks.”

My attention was half set on the boys now. If they were going to morph into beasts there was little I could do about the situation anyway, until the dust had settled. It didn’t appear to be escalating however, both were now discussing something in hushed tones, casually glancing over in this direction. Which didn’t necessarily bode well for me. Had my full focus been on Michelle I might have been able to decipher the expression on her face, unfortunately I caught only enough to know I had hit a nerve.

Scanning the likelihood that Dom and Will would return I quickly admitted to a guilty pleasure. Video games weren’t among my most frequented hobbies but I could relate to one in the pair. “Playing The Witcher and its sequels led to many hours of research into the Origins of the Wild Hunt in European mythology, I wanted to know if the Sunstone, or something similar possibly existed in folklore.” Holding a finger to my lips I indicated my nerdery was to be our little secret as my friends re-entered the arena. “What’s going on?” Dom still had the guitar slung about his shoulders. “Michelle was just asking me if I knew any gorgeous single women.” Both males took one look at one another, then at me and began walking back towards the guitar display. Lesbians were a pointless endeavor.

“You wouldn’t have, and yeah it’s Kai, nickname, short for Malakai Sebastian Greenmantle the Third.” My full title was usually daunting in a social setting. “Just moved here, two days ago in fact, so I’d love a guide around the unique nightlife if you’re interested.” Could I trigger whatever button I had pushed before?

Was I impressed? Well, this is exactly how it would play out. Immediately following the "I'm rich" information, I would be the least impressed person in the world, if I even believed it. I'd roll my eyes once the chat was over, annoyed that there were people who would just immediately fawn over someone being that rich. But then, before I went to bed that night, you bet your ass I'd be wondering what it would be like to have a sugar daddy. But really, what the fuck would I even do with that kind of money? Well, that sure makes me feel better. And maybe slightly awkward. But I didn't particularly show it. That kind of thing came with practice. From the low-income school kids renting band instruments to the rich old guys attempting to sate their mid life crisis by learning guitar... hell even a few that I thought might actually be in a signed band, I dealt with more than a few income classes and managed to treat them all the same. Then again, I wasn't used to the rich ones hitting on me. I wasn't even going to go into the guitarist vamp situation though. I'm sure that was all Shane's doing, and for what exactly? I still didn't know.

"So I'm the exception?" I almost asked, but that would have been more Maggie's style, rest in peace. So is this an invite to said party? You know what? Fuck yeah, I'd go to his party. I'd stand out like a fucking broken bleeding thumb, but fuck it. I'd drag Caly too and then those yacht club fuckers wouldn't know what hit 'em. It went without saying that I'd need to get high as a flippin' kite before I went. Because if so, just let me know when and where.

Luckily, just as the henchmen had chilled out a little bit, I heard the door open as another person had walked into the store. I hadn't seen who, but I wasn't too worried. Just so there were no brutes battling it out. My mind skipped through the ideas of dialogue without the dialogue, about how much I knew to be true in this world that was oh so commonly thought to be the myth of cheesy fucking movies. I think it's possible that a lot of lore and mythology have... something-

So how much did I read into this? Did he not want them to know he was a gamer, or had he picked up that I was.. "aware" but they weren't? Either way, the topic had already jumped ship, and I was now trying to decide if I was or wasn't lamenting the fact that I was now thought to be a lesbian. Maybe the hint was strong, but shit I appreciated when people could open their minds a tiny bit to understand that some people liked both? Maybe the goons didn't get it, but Kai might have? Of course, I'd have to spend more time with him before I decided whether or not I wanted him to or not. Besides, if he really was hinting at what I was really thinking, there was more intrigue to this meeting than an eventual night together. And I'd have to decide who he was, because anymore I had no fucking clue who was a friend and who was an enemy. And I couldn't just straight up ask what the fuck he was now could I?

Um, wow. I said, my brows raising, and I wasn't sure if I was impressed or... just.. whatever that was. Yeah I think I'd stick with Kai too. I wasn't about to let him in on the secret that my driver's license actually read Evangeline. Not that his name was... bad other than the fact that it reeked of mansions and butlers and mahogany. Shit, almost sounded like he could be related to the Malfoys.

I looked about the store, making sure no one was waiting at the register impatiently. Our new company was simply the band director at Index, looking over some new sheet music on an endcap. I gave her a smile and a polite nod before turning my attention back to Kai. My eyes actually met his as I tried to read his face looking for some clue that he meant more than some shitty night club.

It depends on the scene you're looking for, Mr... Greenmantle? I grinned after I spoke it, Let's see... there's Poison... I decided to go on an ambiguous mix of my own as far as the information I returned. Which isn't a place I'd recommend unless... you either like bloody mary's or take your iron regularly. Yeah, that didn't come out as smooth as a clue as I'd hoped but it fucking got the trick done. I haven't been to One Shot in a while, but the people there seem to be a bit... cliquish. Not very fond of outsiders.

Given my occupation one would think that examining and scrutinizing would come naturally. When presented with an inanimate object no-one could rival my abilities, aside from the various Elders who had tutored me of course. Add a human being into the mixture and that was a different story. Faces were troublesome. I would have been delighted to know exactly how Michelle felt about my strapping bank account. More specifically my unashamed broadcast of the fact. I had no clue though. I think maybe I was a little too dumbstruck by her fine china skin. The fact she was inviting herself to my party was a promising sign. Not that she had invited herself, technically I had invited her in a non-confrontational roundabout way. “It most definitely is. You have a Facebook? I’ll be posting all the build-up on there”

Smiling almost to myself I was pleasantly taken aback by Michelle’s response to my grandiose spiel about The Witcher. I had been painfully expecting some song about how hot Geralt was, which he was I could appreciate that or maybe some sly comment about the amount of sex to be had in game. A statement that hid whether or not she had personally been into it, just to gauge my own thoughts first. There was nothing sexy about admitting to eagerly playing through fictitious sexual scenarios. Nothing made me happier than not having to deal with any of that in conversation.

Nodding slowly I accepted her reaction to my name with a broad smile on my face. It could have been worse. Apathetic was good. My golf clap speed of head bob hit a brick wall, my smile faltering. Bloody Marys and iron levels. I’d be a terrible Warlock if that didn’t raise a flag when describing the atmosphere of a nightclub. This was an awkward situation though. Michelle obviously knew about Vampires, but how did I let her know, that I knew, without looking like a crazy person? Speaking to a human about supernaturalism without the fear of appearing to be several marbles short of a full bag was tough. She wasn’t a blood-doll was she? That would be very unfortunate.

Clearing my throat I tried to be considerate with my words. “You go to Poison often? I'm personally more of a beer kind of guy” Tilting my head to get an obvious angle I stared at her neck, letting my eyes move about as if looking for something. Generally the bite marks weren’t on display but if we were on the same page then she would get my drift. I had nothing against Vampires, or their pets. In fact the Dolls were some of my most repeat customers, seeking talismans to help un-fog their memories or ward against full compulsion. “One Shot sounds interesting, how about a drink or five?” Smiling warmly now lifting my eyes to hers I decided that even if this turned out to be nothing more than gaining another customer, there was no harm in a night out. Covens tended to be cliquish. On the other hand so did Wolves. Hounds would be very bad but if I took some protection I was semi confident that I wouldn’t get murdered on the first date.

Patting the back pockets of my slacks I made sure I had some ‘Dog Candies’ in one, while removing my phone from the other. I’d charmed the sweets to redirect the attentions of Wolves on something else, sex, drinking, sleep, I had a whole collection. Today I had one in my possession. Mental note to make some more. “Assuming you’re interested, I’m going to need your number.” Producing my phone incited the expected wolf whistles from Dom and Will who were now hovering around the front counter with Dom’s new guitar girlfriend. "Regardless I'm gonna need it for a party invite when we set a date."
