setting
Index was once a small and close-knit community, but the town located on the western side of Washington state has grown in recent years beyond anyone's expectations. It is the ideal place for those who work in Seattle but can't afford the city's high real estate prices, and for others the natural beauty attracts them to the town. And Index truly is a beautiful place - surrounded by thick evergreen trees, tall mountains and glistening rivers and lakes. While weather is typically rainy with overcast skies even this does nothing to take away from the beauty of the town, and it is only highlighted further when the heavy snow graces the town and caps the mountains in winter. To many, Index would seem like a paradise. And yet lurking beneath this visual beauty there is more to this town than anyone might ever imagine...

Current Time in Index, Washington:
rules
PLAYBYS: Sims from the games Sims 2, 3 and 4 are used to visually represent player’s original characters (no characters from within the franchise are allowed). But, you do not need these games to join and roleplay! If you wish, you can post a thread in our out of character / general forum and list as many physical details about your character as you wish. The members of Index will happily try and make a character for you, and you can choose which one you feel best fits your vision.

AVATARS: Avatars should display your characters face clearly and should be at least 200 pixels tall, and 200 pixels wide.

THREADING & POSTING: When threading with multiple characters, it is important that you post only when it is your turn. This can be acheived by taking note of who has posted before you, and remember you are to always post after them. If you were the thread starter, then it is your turn after the final person has joined your thread.

When creating a thread you are required to place a tag before the title. Here are a list of types of thread you can create and how to tag each one:

[Open] Anyone is welcome to join your thread, with no limit on the number of characters.
[Open - #] Anyone is welcome to join your thread, but there is a limit on the number of characters who can join. Replace the # with how many extra characters you will allow to join your thread.
[Private] Only specific characters can join your thread.
[Closed] This tag should be used for threads that only involve your character.

ACTIVITY: To keep threads moving, people are encouraged to post within three days when it is their turn. If you do not post within three days, and you have not asked people to wait for you, it is possible you will be skipped. Keep in mind this is just a suggestion. While we'd love for everyone to be active every day, we understand that real life and other hobbies are just as important, if not more. We want you to be active because you want to be, not because a rule is telling you to be.

MATURITY RATING: Public threads should all be PG. If roleplayers above the age of 18 wish to post content that could be could be considered graphic then it should be hidden from view using the [hide] [/hide] code, which will enable only those in the threads and administrators to view the content.

Rupert's Apartment

My apartment was located above a quirky, used furniture store in West Elkton, with access via steps at the side of the building. It was fortunately only the floor above the store so there were no long steps to walk up. I checked the mailbox, pulling out some junk leaflets, and pushed through, beckoning Sof to follow. Once inside the first door there was a small, dimly lit and narrow hallway leading to the actual front door of my apartment.

I unlocked the door, balancing my shopping bags on one arm, and chucked my keys in a bowl near the door when it was open. And no you've finally got to see the wonder that's my place. I asked, stepping forward into the kitchen and dumping my bags down where they wouldn't get in the way. I turned around, surveying the apartment through the glass 'walls'. So, what d'you think? It was great living with you and I can't say thanks enough, but c'mon, you can see why I fell for this place, huh?

The second I stepped foot inside Ru's apartment and took in the interior, I didn't even want to classify it as an apartment because it was anything but that. It was the definition of a bachelors pad and basically every hipster's dream living space. I believe they refer to that as "goals" nowadays. But even I was a little jealous of his new place he now calls home, if not jealously, it was nostalgia. I had an apartment similar to Ru's back in Paris, and now I'm thinking of it, boy do I miss that place.

I perked my head to the familiar sound of keys rattling in a glass bowl, a small smile shines through as I looked over at Ru who was in the kitchen.  Did you get that idea from me? I asked brightly. He must have remembered I kept a vintage glass bowl right next to the front door that housed all of my keys. I walked further into his studio living quarters and was surprised at how well put together everything was. To be honest, I was expecting empty pizza boxes, beer bottles and a rustled up bed; but nope. Everything was, well perfect. Definitely not like my place at the moment. I plopped down on the end of his couch, grabbing one of the pillows and resting it in my lap.  How could anyone not fall for this place? That is the real question here. But I don't blame you at all for kicking me in the dust. I understand. I said sarcastically, my lips widening into a smirk.

Or maybe you got the idea from me? I teased back. Want a drink? I got a jug of filtered water out the fridge and poured a glass for myself, going back in there to fetch a lemon. I took a knife and sliced a piece off, placing it in my glass. But yeah, I thought the idea was neat.

Apart from a few coffee cup rims on my desk, everything was in order. The last few days I hadn't spent much time at home. I'd eaten out the night before, gone back to a lady's place and only checked in quick in the morning before going out shopping. Oh yeah? Here, let me brush off some of that dust, wouldn't want to get it on my couch. I joked, sitting next to Sof and mock swiping at her shoulders. I looked at her a little longer than I should have, grinned and leaned back on the couch, looking back at the room around us. Chicks fall for it alright... not that I needed the help. I smirked. My smile softened. I do kinda miss you sometimes though. Just having someone else around. So, what do you wanna do? Watch a movie?I've got a few downloaded to choose from.

Yes please, and can I get a fancy lemon in mine? I asked cheerily. As I waited for Ru to join me I allowed my eyes to gaze at the art hanging on his walls, which got me thinking if I even had a nice painting like these on my walls. I wasn't really one for decoration, the only room I actually put effort in was my own bedroom.

My mouth hung open at what he said next, a laugh escaping me as he swiped at my shoulders. I shook my head and threw the pillow I was holding at his chest as he sat down next to me.  What would I do without you? I joked, a playful smile appearing on my face as I pulled my legs onto the couch and criss-crossed them.  No you sure don't. You didn't need it back in high school either. I don't think I've ever seen Ru be this playful, by no means was I complaining, I was enjoying every moment of it and the smile on my face confirmed just that.  I've missed you too. I did miss having someone else around the house too, mostly because if I heard the slightest sound I just told myself it was Rupert. But now that it's just me, I automatically think the worse.

Sounds perfect! How about as I'm looking for a film you go and make some popcorn? I exclaimed, reaching for his laptop on the coffee table and placing it in my lap. I lightly graced my fingertips over the trackpad as I opened his video file and started clicking through his downloads.  You in the mood for anything? Action, horror, comedy... I asked but then trailed off once I hovered over a video file titled October of 2014. Curiosity got the best of me as I pressed on the trackpad and the video went full screen.

From the looks of it the video was recorded on a cellphone and the audio was muffled, but I managed to hear what seemed like breathing close to the microphone. Was that... Rupert? I sunk further into the couch and brought my fingernails to my teeth as I continued to watch whatever it was unfold. For the first bit of the video the audio was quiet for the exception branches snapping and breathing in the background, but my entire body shuddered at the cries of agony that erupted next. My eyes widened when a man came into view, realizing he was the one howling in pain... And that's when I saw his spine snap into a hunch and him collapsing onto the ground. I covered my mouth as I watched his entire body tear him apart, the continuous shattering of his bones never stopped ringing in my ears. I quickly tossed Ru's laptop onto the cushion beside me the second I heard a thundering howl leave that man's mouth.

My heart was pounding against my chest and every inch of my body was shaking uncontrollably as my hands covered my mouth. What in the hell did I just watch? What was Ru doing there and why? What was happening to that guy?!

I took the pillow and stuck my tongue out at her. Aaaw, miss you too, what, you trying to turn me into your girlfriend with all these emotions, Sofia Rin? I joked. It seemed she liked the place too, but I wasn't going to reveal I'd paid a designer friend to put it all together for me. It looked good and I'd be proud of it, but it wasn't all my doing. I had better things to do than choose cushions for a couch. Fancy lemon? You can have a plain lemon. But sure, I'll throw some popcorn in too. Go for whatever you want movie wise. I should have a good selection on there. Oh - just don't download anything too gory.. you know what I'm like with blood. I had my porn collection in a hidden file too, so that wouldn't end up happening.

I went back over to the kitchen area, leaving the glass door open, and dug around to find some microwavable popcorn packets I knew I had stashed somewhere. Of course they had to be half-hidden behind the seemingly endless number of potions Mom had sent me. It felt dangerous keeping them in kitchen cabinets in case someone got their hands on them, even though I lived alone, but from the bottles and labels most people would assume they were simply herbal and homeopathic supplements and remedies. In reality, I didn't know why Mom thought I needed things like truth potions. Who did she think I needed to wrangle some hidden secret out of, that I couldn't manage myself, without a magical aid? Then again I didn't make a habit of bragging about my many conquests to her.

The popcorn was in the microwave and had just started popping when I heard it. A muffled, but familiar howl coming from the other room. My blood ran cold as soon as I realised what it was. I'd listened to that sound so many times, replaying the video for any hint of a clue.

I ran back through the door to the couch, taking in the scene - the laptop tossed to one side and Sof trembling on the couch. Shit. Hey? Are you okay? What happened? I rushed over to her, pulling her into a hug. Shit, I'd completely forgotten that video was on there. It's okay... I soothed, gritting my teeth as I began thinking up explanations. I reached and lifted the laptop lid up, my heart sinking when the selected video confirmed my thoughts. It was... just a clip from a movie. I lied.
