setting
Index was once a small and close-knit community, but the town located on the western side of Washington state has grown in recent years beyond anyone's expectations. It is the ideal place for those who work in Seattle but can't afford the city's high real estate prices, and for others the natural beauty attracts them to the town. And Index truly is a beautiful place - surrounded by thick evergreen trees, tall mountains and glistening rivers and lakes. While weather is typically rainy with overcast skies even this does nothing to take away from the beauty of the town, and it is only highlighted further when the heavy snow graces the town and caps the mountains in winter. To many, Index would seem like a paradise. And yet lurking beneath this visual beauty there is more to this town than anyone might ever imagine...

Current Time in Index, Washington:
rules
PLAYBYS: Sims from the games Sims 2, 3 and 4 are used to visually represent player’s original characters (no characters from within the franchise are allowed). But, you do not need these games to join and roleplay! If you wish, you can post a thread in our out of character / general forum and list as many physical details about your character as you wish. The members of Index will happily try and make a character for you, and you can choose which one you feel best fits your vision.

AVATARS: Avatars should display your characters face clearly and should be at least 200 pixels tall, and 200 pixels wide.

THREADING & POSTING: When threading with multiple characters, it is important that you post only when it is your turn. This can be acheived by taking note of who has posted before you, and remember you are to always post after them. If you were the thread starter, then it is your turn after the final person has joined your thread.

When creating a thread you are required to place a tag before the title. Here are a list of types of thread you can create and how to tag each one:

[Open] Anyone is welcome to join your thread, with no limit on the number of characters.
[Open - #] Anyone is welcome to join your thread, but there is a limit on the number of characters who can join. Replace the # with how many extra characters you will allow to join your thread.
[Private] Only specific characters can join your thread.
[Closed] This tag should be used for threads that only involve your character.

ACTIVITY: To keep threads moving, people are encouraged to post within three days when it is their turn. If you do not post within three days, and you have not asked people to wait for you, it is possible you will be skipped. Keep in mind this is just a suggestion. While we'd love for everyone to be active every day, we understand that real life and other hobbies are just as important, if not more. We want you to be active because you want to be, not because a rule is telling you to be.

MATURITY RATING: Public threads should all be PG. If roleplayers above the age of 18 wish to post content that could be could be considered graphic then it should be hidden from view using the [hide] [/hide] code, which will enable only those in the threads and administrators to view the content.

Appearance. (She is not wearing a wig - just showing how her hair looks.)

The best way to put it was that I was courting her; courting Lillium as an ally, as perhaps a business partner. Dimitrius didn't like this, nor did I expect him to. He said that she was new, and could not be trusted, at least not until he could do further research into her past. I didn't want that. I wanted new, I wanted a new point of view, perhaps from someone wanting a new start. Why else would anyone come alone? If I wanted to know for any reason where she came from, it would be to know what it was she desired to depart from. Of course, Dimitrius called that "reckless". I called my current predicament, "stagnant". I didn't even consider the slight predicament with Benjamin as interesting, but I wasn't going to let Noelle know that. I did, however, plan on convincing him to become a part of this family. Noelle wanted it, and although he was new, and really arrogant for his role in this, I gave Noelle what she wanted.

I sat in the back of the car (which in addition to the existing security features had been modified so that I could be allowed to travel during the daytime) and pulled out my phone. I had to do something about that while I was thinking about it. I had given the Benjamin long enough to throw his tantrum.

Baby Ben
We need to speak. I'll be visiting you soon. - Gayle

I put the phone away as the car arrived at the entrance to Poison. I had revisited long after my run-in with the lost puppy who had somehow thought it a wise idea to go right into the vampire lounge. I'd been there since the new management had taken over, and I had certainly enjoyed the changes they made. For my "date" with Lillium, I had chosen a more relaxed night, a night easier for conversation and mingling. The talent tonight was reminiscent of early to mid 20th century, sounds echoing Nat King Cole, Sinatra, Bing Crosby. Not only would the atmosphere be more appropriate for what both Lillium and I were looking for, but the crowd as well.

"Ms. Shaffer?! Could it be? I thought I told you not to return - your beauty is blinding our patrons!" I snapped my head toward the man, and I knew him to be one of the owners of the club.

You need to work on your flattery, Vescott. And while you're at it, a gin and tonic? Please? While his brown-nosing needed lots of work, I still liked the man. He was young, at least to me, being turned around the age of 28 and had been one of us for only around seventy years. But his husband was at least two hundred, and certainly kept him on a leash. He was a fantastic mentor. Vescott nodded and departed, and I relaxed my posture as I sat at the table, a few tables back from the small stage. I knew I would sense Lillium's presence when she entered, and I would have someone direct her to me.

The sharp click of my heels against the pavement trailed behind me like breadcrumbs on my way to the club. I was excited, though not exactly by the idea of the club itself. My company for the evening was much more of a draw then the promise of a mixed-company vampire lounge with theme nights. The place where the club was located, Owl Heights, was a district which apparently catered to the wealthy and due to this fact I had something of an idea of which way the patrons may be inclined to behave: either pretentious or outre, and neither very appealing.

It was perhaps the same prejudice which led me to overlook the houses in the area that my realtor had shown me. I even passed one while walking, the windows still dark and vacant in the home behind the intricate wrought iron gate and I paid it no more attention now in person than I had the emailed photos. I had experienced residing in a manor just before now and had no desire to take residence in one on my own. Especially alone. So many lonesome rooms...

The distant sounds of a jazz piano played through the frigid air as I turned the corner and the lighted sign came into sight. Poison. It had apparently come under new management recently but they had opted not to change the name. It was a decision I could see both sides of, but then, they weren't paying me to consult. I stopped in what could have passed as a very small dealership for luxury cars but was, in fact, the club's parking lot. Peering into the blacked-out windows of an Astin Martin in order to adjust my hat, I smoothed my hands over my coat and dress before striding to the entrance.

I will admit to a certain level of surprise upon entering. The sculpture and amount of detail paid to the bar alone was timelessly stylish in a ways that certain modern venues could rarely pull off. The primary colors used to decorate, black and red, favorites in vampire clubs I had noticed, were tastefully done here, and I was thankful for it. Even in my verdant attire, I didn't feel like I stuck out. In fact, in light of the crowd, I felt quite comfortable. Men wore hats; ladies as well, and gloves. The only marked difference from this era and one the it drew inspiration from was that the room was free of cigarette smoke. I left my coat in the coat room, standing by the bar for a moment just to take in the sight of the whip-thin man on stage crooning alongside a brunette to "Fancy Meeting You Here" and sounding just like Bing and Rosemary, albeit a little more toned down in combination with the piano. It was lovely, and for just a handful of minutes I let myself be pulled into the atmosphere it created, smiling all the while.

My gin and tonic didn't take very long at all, and neither did Miss Ainsworth. She was perfect, and reminded me of days when more was required to be seen in public than pajamas and slippers. The emerald was a lovely shade against her alabaster skin, and the hat - I envied the choice. She was classic enough and reminded me of a sort of American Royalty.

One drink through turned up lips and I decided to greet her personally, and escort her back to my table. In an almost giddy, child-like fashion, I walked toward her, my strides long but airy, and I took her hand as soon as I reached her. My greet was a weak squeeze then I freed her hand and made a point to take in her attire, my smile a sure sign of approval. Lovely!

I paused, taking a moment in an attempt to see the place as she was, for the first time. Of course some of my prior experiences might have left a bad taste in my mouth. But those people were long gone, and yes, Poison now had a new life to it. It no longer felt so much like a step down, and many of the faces were new; faces I wouldn't have expected here before. This was certainly a step in the right direction for Lillium.

Shall we? I looked toward my table, where my drink still sat. I was itching for another drink, and the thought excited me that if the encounter went well, I just might invite Lillium along with me to fetch dinner. I headed toward the table, my steps without as much of the capricious nature. A server had already pulled out the chairs for us, and I reclaimed my seat, my drink quickly finding its way back into my hand. I focused my attention on the music.

Have you spoken with anyone else since we last met?

I saw and heard Ms. Shaffer coming long before she reached me, giving me time to admire her appearance. She was resplendent in indigo and gold though her smile shone much more brightly than any jewelry she wore. The veritable giddiness with which she approached was infectious and I soon found myself with a smile to match hers. I returned the brief press of hands with a light squeeze of the one offered me, a much more natural-seeming gesture from Ms. Shaffer than the greeting at our initial meeting. I took this to be a good sign; she seemed genuinely pleased by my company. "I was hoping that I wasn't too overdone. You look stunning in those colors, by the way."

While Ms. Shaffer busied herself taking in the room and appearing deep in thought, I hailed the bar tender and ordered something appropriate. A moment later, an icy cold Tom Collins was given to me by the smiling man behind the bar. I raised it to Gayle; "We certainly shall now." I replied and followed her through the crowd toward her stage-side table. Ah, this really brought back memories of supper clubs and dancing! It does our kind no good to linger over nostalgia but sometimes I longed for those days. I was glad Gayle had invited me and glad the club was positively nothing like I had expected. I was just about to say as much, having taken both my seat and a sip of my beverage, when Ms. Shaffer posed her question.

"Not outside of some conference calls for business and a personal call to a friend or two. No one in town as of yet." Honestly, I hadn't left my new flat much since the gallery opening. Perhaps I was pouting, I couldn't be sure, but after leaving the manor I was in no particular rush to meet anyone new. My cellar was stocked with enough food to make the Red Cross froth at the mouth had they known it hadn't made its officially intended destination, but I did go for a walk or two in order to see the town. I didn't feel comfortable hunting in new territory quite so soon.

"Why do you ask, if you don't mind my asking? Do I need to be careful to whom I speak or are you going to reveal me properly like a debutante?" I joked lightly, hoping she wouldn't mind the humor. A powerful woman like that was bound to tire of bowing and scraping... I hoped.

"May I call you Gayle? I wanted to thank you for inviting me out." I smiled and raised my glass to her slightly once again. "I had my doubts, but I am quite pleasantly surprised. I think I shall be coming back here." Another sip, the maraschino cherry coming dangerously close to my cheek, "And please call me Lillium. Or Lil. However you prefer, but I feel inclined to dispense the formalities."

I adored this dress; I enjoyed the elaborate beading and intricate seams and such - in all my years I'd never taken an interest in learning to sew or create fashions of my own. I had decided to leave that to those who were better at it than I. It was a shame not everyone had an appreciation for this as an art form, and it was a shame that it was only on the rarest of occasions that it was socially acceptable to wear some of the beautiful pieces I owned. "Ready to Wear" was everything on the runway for me. Why we had the capability to create such elaborate works and yet never wore them astounded me. Sweats and faux leather boots that looked like nothing more than house slippers as someone's casual dress was pathetic. I was a busy, busy woman, and even I had time to put on my best front to the world. In some ways, there was never a greater time to be alive. The advances of science, the luxuries we had to make life so much easier and it was still too much trouble to put on real clothing. That was one of the first things that had impressed me about Lillium. No, it wasn't couture, as my sometimes flamboyant tastes take me, but it was polished. And tonight she proved it wasn't a fluke. Everything she said to me was careful, polite, and she knew her place and hadn't overstepped it. It was refreshing.

That means a lot, colors aren't usually my strong suit. It's so easy to stick with black, isn't it? Most of my favorites were black, but then again most McQueen was black or black and gold. I washed my fashion dribble down with a little more gin and relaxed to the music, thankful that a few silly rants on fashion were the most pressing thing on my mind. That's what I had needed. There had been no advances in the experiments for a while, my Noelle's little progeny was an arrogant little bastard, and the Supremacy was on my back about the wolf population. What I couldn't tell them was that I needed this population to be happy and healthy. As much as I hated it, I needed eventually to establish some sort of relationship with them, or at least a means of obtaining specimens. Trust me, if I had wanted that population gone, it would have happened a long time ago. Noelle's trailer trash ex boyfriend would have been history.

I only ask because I don't want you to get the wrong impression about the area. I took another sip before continuing, I hate nothing more than to be introducing you to the politics of it already, but if you happen to run into the sheriff, I want you to remember that he answers to me. I stopped to place the glass tumbler on the table and smile authentically at Lillium. He's a bit of an arse, I spoke, letting a hint of my old accent sneak out.

Gayle is just fine, and as for me - I believe I'll stick with Lillium. I enjoy the way it sounds. I wrapped my fingers around my drink once again and raised it to Lillium.
