setting
Index was once a small and close-knit community, but the town located on the western side of Washington state has grown in recent years beyond anyone's expectations. It is the ideal place for those who work in Seattle but can't afford the city's high real estate prices, and for others the natural beauty attracts them to the town. And Index truly is a beautiful place - surrounded by thick evergreen trees, tall mountains and glistening rivers and lakes. While weather is typically rainy with overcast skies even this does nothing to take away from the beauty of the town, and it is only highlighted further when the heavy snow graces the town and caps the mountains in winter. To many, Index would seem like a paradise. And yet lurking beneath this visual beauty there is more to this town than anyone might ever imagine...

Current Time in Index, Washington:
rules
PLAYBYS: Sims from the games Sims 2, 3 and 4 are used to visually represent player’s original characters (no characters from within the franchise are allowed). But, you do not need these games to join and roleplay! If you wish, you can post a thread in our out of character / general forum and list as many physical details about your character as you wish. The members of Index will happily try and make a character for you, and you can choose which one you feel best fits your vision.

AVATARS: Avatars should display your characters face clearly and should be at least 200 pixels tall, and 200 pixels wide.

THREADING & POSTING: When threading with multiple characters, it is important that you post only when it is your turn. This can be acheived by taking note of who has posted before you, and remember you are to always post after them. If you were the thread starter, then it is your turn after the final person has joined your thread.

When creating a thread you are required to place a tag before the title. Here are a list of types of thread you can create and how to tag each one:

[Open] Anyone is welcome to join your thread, with no limit on the number of characters.
[Open - #] Anyone is welcome to join your thread, but there is a limit on the number of characters who can join. Replace the # with how many extra characters you will allow to join your thread.
[Private] Only specific characters can join your thread.
[Closed] This tag should be used for threads that only involve your character.

ACTIVITY: To keep threads moving, people are encouraged to post within three days when it is their turn. If you do not post within three days, and you have not asked people to wait for you, it is possible you will be skipped. Keep in mind this is just a suggestion. While we'd love for everyone to be active every day, we understand that real life and other hobbies are just as important, if not more. We want you to be active because you want to be, not because a rule is telling you to be.

MATURITY RATING: Public threads should all be PG. If roleplayers above the age of 18 wish to post content that could be could be considered graphic then it should be hidden from view using the [hide] [/hide] code, which will enable only those in the threads and administrators to view the content.

I don’t know what had taken Peyton so long, but by the time she turned up I’d already gotten the situation under control. Despite the message I’d received and the racket that echoed out from behind the closed bathroom door, it hadn’t been too serious, simultaneously making me feel relieved and disappointed. It was still a disturbance though, and needed to be dealt with. I could have seen it as trivial, but the commotion was causing a scene at what was supposed to be a high brow event and even as I’d approached I’d noticed it was making other guests cautious about going into the bathroom, perhaps in case they got pulled into the argument.

I’d gathered from the shouting, which had continued when I entered, that it concerned an affair and one of the women’s husbands. Their fight hadn’t escalated physically, thankfully, because although I didn’t like to judge people’s size, one of the women was considerably large, and I’d been able to quieten their screeching and talk them both down until it didn’t seem like they were going to rip each other’s throats out surprisingly quickly.

I gave them both a warning and escorted one of the women out of the bathroom, where I was now waiting for Peyton. The woman was sniffing and subtly trying to fix her makeup using a compact mirror, turned towards the wall and away from guests who walked past. I sighed and glanced to my watch. It had only taken a few minutes but it would have been nice to have some backup, just in case.

Peyton walked over and I turned to her, raising an eyebrow of my own. I noticed the absence of the food tray but left that matter for the time being.  Quote Begin I suppose catfight’s the closest description… Quote End I said, a small smile at my lips. Quote Begin I’ve sorted it out. We should probably get back to our task. Quote End

I’d just uttered the last word when the door to the bathroom opened, revealing the larger of the two catfight culprits. Her eyes were still red-rimmed and I would have felt a little sorry for her if I hadn’t been focussed on watching her movements, which at first appeared un-threatening.

The sound of a sneer from the slighter, blonde woman, changed that completely. In a matter of seconds the large brunette shrieked in anger and barrelled into the blonde. It shocked me how people had no qualms over acting like this in public, though I’d seen the aftermath of infidelity enough times to know the people involved could just go out of their minds.

The larger woman’s fighting style was clumsy, but the punches she threw with her large limbs would probably do more damage than the typical clawing female fighting tactics the blonde had resorted to. Both were screaming obscenities at each other and causing quite a scene already. I jumped forward, going for the larger woman and grabbed one of her wrists, using her surprise against her. When I pressed down with a thumb behind her ear I was easily able to manoeuvre her arm behind her back and turn her away from the blonde, putting some distance in between them. I only hoped Peyton would turn out to be reliable and deal with the clawing, wriggly blonde.

Fuck, it actually was a catfight? What, for real? What the fuck is their problem? I shook my head. And I'd thought this shit couldn't get anymore fucking stupid. I was never taking this fucking job again, no matter what the pay was like. Plus, the only reason I'd done it was to have more money to put toward the Mach 1, and after the 'bonus' we'd probably get for doing the bosses job I'd have plenty of that. At least she'd taken care of it. Good, so we can finally get the hell out of this place and do the grounds patrol? About fucking time.

I was just turning around when the door opened and a fucking heifer of a woman came out. Hah, if there'd been an actual catfight then I'd be putting my money on the fat one. My lips twitched at my thoughts and I figured the job wasn't absolutely terrible. But never again, no way in hell. I mean, I'd had to but my steak in a roll. Who the fuck wouldn't understand the downright pain of having to do something like that to a beautiful, perfectly cooked piece of meat.

So yeah, maybe the fact that my anger at all of this ended up directed toward the two retarded humans wasn't exactly fair, but neither was what I'd had to do to my fucking steak. When the big bitch made a moved I had every intention of letting them fight it the fuck out, but of course, I'd forgotten I was stuck with the saint.

Who could actually fucking handle herself pretty well, it seemed. I struggled not to laugh as she manhandled and subdued the whale, who started making noise like she'd been beached. Fuck professionalism, this shit was way too funny and there should be a clause for things that you weren't expected to try restrain yourself for. This would definitely be one of them. I turned my attention to the blonde, kinda annoyed I was stuck with the small one. No fun at all, too easy. She looked like she was gonna spring for the big one and Hana, her knees bent slightly.

Wouldn't do that if I were you. I took a step closer, towering over her even in the heels she was wearing, pinning her with a look that said I could beat the shit out of her if the whim so much as took me. She froze and I lowered my voice, speaking so only she could hear me and looking into her mind to find the best way to do this. Listen, from what fatty was saying about you, well, you're not exactly in the position to take the fucking moral high ground here. I don't give a shit if you're a slut, hell go ahead and sleep with however many married men you want. But I'm guessing you do care about everyone else finding out you're kinda a whore. I read the fear in her thoughts, the fact that she didn't want to be gossiped about and the worry she'd already done too fucking much to stop it. So why don't you leave with what little dignity there is for you to gather and get the hell out before I kick you out. All in all I figured I was being really fucking generous in saving her that embarrassment.

She turned immediately, heading in the direction of the exit but I called over one of the male security personal who'd been hanging around without a fucking clue what to do. Keep an eye on the blonde, make sure she actually leaves and doesn't try pull a fucking fast one. Her sneaking back in would be kinda funny, but something told me she'd just go home to lick her wounds in private. God, human drama was so fucking retarded, and tiring. I stretched, rolling my neck until it cracked and then looking around to see what had happened with Hana and the other woman.

I lowered the large woman to the ground while she still struggled a little, gently but firmly, and kept her hands behind her back while I waited for Peyton to manage the blonde woman. To my surprise it really didn't take long at all and sooner than I'd thought possible I watched the lady walk towards the exit.

Slowly, I let the other woman up as she'd stilled, keeping an eye on her. Her eyes were very red but the rage had vanished from her features, just making the upset look more apparent. She did her best to arrange her dress and hair, sneaking small, self-conscious glances around her. I waited, giving her the time to collect herself before speaking. Quote Begin It might be best if you waited a five minutes and also left. Quote End I said, easily making the order sound like a suggestion. I gave her a prim smile. Although I did feel sorry for her over what had apparently happened, I also had a job to do and gushing sympathy was no part of it. My smile softened slightly when she nodded and then murmured an apology.

I turned back to Peyton, my heels clicking against the marble flooring as I walked over to her. Quote BeginIf we wait a few minutes we can follow her out, and then get to checking the perimeter. Finally.Quote End I smiled, and then cocked my head at Peyton. I hadn't forgotten the efficiency with which she'd handled the situation. I was a little surprised given her previous attitude and her tone through the radio, but it only made me firmer in my decision that Peyton was trying to hide her true, good self. I found her embarrassment about it was ridiculously sweet. Quote BeginYou did really well back there. Have you ever considered a career in law enforcement?Quote End

Jesus fucking Christ, it felt like this night was never gonna end. I mean the part had already been going on awhile when I'd been saddled with the chick, but time had done nothing but drag since then. I hadn't even gotten to dive into all that food I'd gotten. Shit, if I'd just eaten it outside and ignored my radio then maybe I wouldn't have to do something redundant like sharing it. Fuck, I nearly groaned out loud just thinking about it.

I kept an eye on Ms. Piggy, wondering why the hell she was surprised that her husband had strayed. People were dicks, male and female, and if you were shocked by someone doing something shitty then that was you only fucking problem for not realizing it was inevitable. People did shitty things, it was an undeniable fact of life. Still, I had to give her props for managing a brave face, 'cause judging from the state of her thoughts she was pretty fucking close to breaking down. My ears picked up her mumbled apology even from where I stood and I figured that she, just like the blonde chick, was choosing to keep what was left of her dignity. I turned away, no longer interested in the scene and more interested in finishing this sandwich.

Huh? I glanced at Hana, then lifted my arm to check on the digital watch at my wrist. About fucking time, the inside stuff blows. Like why the hell do they have the heat cranked up so much anyway? I shook my head and actually focused, taking note of the time and feeling a spark of relief at how much had passed. I'd say we'll get one good rotation before people start clearing out. Didn't realized it'd gotten as late as it has. I shrugged and pushed away from the wall I was leaning against. I intended on heading for the exit but her question actually stopped me and I was looking back at her, expression matching my thoughts on wondering if she was insane. Be a cop? Are you kidding? There's no way I'd last long in there, got some authority issues that I'm in no fucking hurry to do anything about.

It kept touching my heart how Peyton seemed to have so little faith in herself, and I oddly wondered if this was how mothers felt. I brushed it off with a small sigh, surprised at myself. Motherly or broody were two words I'd never use to describe myself and as far as I was concerned, never would be.

I followed Peyton's lead and then continued walking towards the exit, smiling at her almost scandalized expression when all I'd done was pay her a compliment. Quote BeginWell, when there are idiots in positions of authority then it's too easy to have authority issues.Quote End I said, sure that was most likely the route of Peyton's issue. Quote Begin I'm not going to dress it up either, it's atrocious in the police force. Half the people in power have no idea how to do their job and the other just use their position for their own ends. But.. how are you supposed to change the system if not from within, hm?Quote End I smiled, offering a small explanation of why I was still on the force when I felt that way. Quote Begin Either way, if you ever were interested, I think you'd make a good cop regardless of those issues. You have a natural talent for persuasion and it's something a lot of officers lack these days.Quote End I let out small sigh.

We'd reached the door and a sharp breeze buffeted me for a second, distracting my thoughts. I zipped up the high vis jacket I had on all the way to the top and pushed out into the cold with determination. Quote Begin I don't think it was that warm in there at all, but out here makes it seem it.Quote End I rubbed my hands together and tucked them into the large pockets of the coat. With a friendly smile, I glanced up to Peyton. Quote Begin I know we've only worked together one evening, or not even that, yet... but if the people I work with were even half as good as you then my job would be so much simpler.Quote End I chuckled to myself, rolling my eyes as I thought exactly how useless some of them were. My workload was ridiculous because prior to my position in Index, it seemed the officers had been doing as little as possible and over time a lot of work had built up.
